eCopy Scan to Cloud
Press release from the issuing company
Friday, November 11, 2011
Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, and Canon Singapore Pte Ltd. (CSPL), today announced the launch of Nuance eCopy Scan-to-Cloud as a standard feature in the new line of intelligent Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE (iR ADVANCE) multifunction devices (MFDs).
The newest addition to the Nuance eCopy product portfolio, eCopy Scan-to-Cloud is cloud-enabled software that provides organisations with powerful document scanning capabilities by directly connecting Canon iR ADVANCE devices to cloud-based services and applications. It leverages the Nuance OmniPage Cloud service, a hosted optical character recognition (OCR) service that converts scanned paper documents into editable word processing, spreadsheet and searchable PDF documents.
The powerful combination of MFD applications – eCopy Scan-to-Cloud and Microsoft Azure-hosted OmniPage Cloud service – makes it an ideal solution for both small-to-medium businesses and enterprise departments, as additional server software is not required to be installed at the customer's premises. With eCopy Scan-to-Cloud, organisations can now seamlessly scan paper documents into word and spreadsheet attachments via SMTP email, and send editable documents directly to their Google Docs, Salesforce.com, and Evernote accounts.
"Cloud computing has rapidly evolved from delivering popular Web services to a platform that enables the delivery of powerful applications to desktops, smart phones, tablets and, now, multifunction devices" said Lim Kok Hin, Vice President, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon South and Southeast Asia. "Our partnership with Nuance makes cloud computing more relevant for organisations using intelligent MFDs such as the Canon iR ADVANCE series. Users will experience increased productivity and efficiency with the direct scan-to-cloud capabilities via Nuance cloud services."
Nuance eCopy Scan-to-Cloud delivers the benefits of cloud computing to Canon MFDs in the same way that applications leverage the cloud on smart phones. With eCopy Scan-to-Cloud, users interact with the Canon MEAP touch-screen on the MFD to connect to Nuance's hosted cloud services – including the OmniPage Cloud service. With the OCR, users do not need to retype pages of text or numbers from paper into hosted services. They can directly scan and instantly search for, edit and share fully-formatted documents. In addition, eCopy Scan-to-Cloud also provides connectivity to email and public cloud services that do not typically have built-in capabilities to capture, digitize and index paper-based information.
Nuance eCopy Scan to Cloud
"Canon Singapore is delivering significant productivity value to customers with eCopy Scan-to-Cloud, particularly for smaller organizations and departments where IT resources are limited," said Robert Weideman, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Nuance Document Imaging. "Our partnership with Canon Singapore in developing this revolutionary multifunction device software shows that customers can benefit from cloud applications for their MFDs too. We look forward to this launch igniting a new wave of innovations that will significantly add value to the cloud applications that benefit users today. "

eCopy ShareScan v5.0 Adds Limitless Forms Processing
Nuance Communications (news, site)
has been adding to its eCopy ShareScan Suite in slow increments over
the years. In April it added some new functionality in v4.35 and eCopy
SDK. This week it released v5.0 that builds on that providing just about
everything needed to automate paper-to-digital scanning.
eCopy ShareScan is the scanning component of Nuance’s extensive speech recognition and imaging technology
and comes with support for the majority of the industry’s MFP
(multifunction peripheral) vendors including Canon, Xerox and Rioch.
Clearly, though, with the drive towards digitalized documents that is being pushed by increasingly stringent compliance regulations,
Nuance has decided that the current market is looking for scanning
capabilities that can be scaled according to the number of users and the
number of documents that need scanning.
Unlimited Forms Processing
While scaling up and down
has been possible for a long time, one of the major upgrades in v5.0 is
the introduction of unlimited forms processing capabilities as a
standard feature, enabling enterprises to take data from forms directly off the MFP.
Running
in tandem to this is the Document Conversion Extender, a document
processing snap-in that enables customers to turn paper documents into
fully-formatted Microsoft Word, Excel and RTF formats. This now covers searchable PDF files too.
New Features
However,
these are not the only new features that come with v5.0. Along with the
forms processing there are five major upgrades. These include:
- Personalized Scanning: Enables
users to set scanning for specific workflows or departments so only
relevant documents find their way the targeted individuals or groups. It
also supports mixed-MFP environments.
- Customization of Workflows:
Along with out-of-the box functionality, it enables customization of
workflows that are enhanced by connectors to business applications.
- Connectors/Extenders:
Expanded number of connectors that enable use with all MFP platforms
and third-party legacy systems with bridging abilities included in the
eCopy SDK.
- Print Management: Tight integration
with print management software including uniFLOW and Equitrac. It also
supports features like single sign-on, card access and secure scanning.
Also
new is eCopy PDF Pro Office 5, an upgrade to eCopy PaperWorks that
delivers the rich features business users want from Adobe(R) Acrobat(R)
Professional, but with unique MFP scanning features — all for about a
third of the price of Adobe.
eCopy ShareScan 5 is available from
Canon USA and Europe. eCopy ShareScan Suite, the entire package, will
cost US$ 2995 per MFP, with pricing of other elements according to needs
available.
