"eCopy PaperWorks requires a TWAIN version 1.7 or higher for scanning" message when launching eCopy PaperWorks

Problem:

When launching eCopy PaperWorks, the following message appears:

eCopy PaperWorks requires TWAIN version 1.7 or higher for scanning. Please see your system Administrator.

Cause:

This message occurs if the eCopy PaperWorks application is installed in a Citrix/Terminal Server Environment without a TWAIN 1.7 or higher driver installed on the Citrix/Terminal Server.

Solution 1:

If the client machine is using a scanner, install the TWAIN 1.7 or higher scanner driver on the Citrix/Terminal Server.

Solution 2:

If the client machine is not using a scanner, delete the "MultipleDataSources" and "Type" keys within the Windows Registry of the server machine.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before editing the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. Follow the steps below to back up the registry:

  1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking "Start > Run" (on Windows 7 and Windows Vista, click the "Start" button and place the cursor into the "Search" field).
  2. Type in "regedit" without the quotes and then press Enter.
  3. Export a backup copy of the Registry in case problems occur during the following procedures by clicking "File > Export".
  4. Save this file to the Windows Desktop and name the file "backup". (Keep "backup" for a few days and if all is well, this file can be deleted.)

Follow the directions below to manually delete the "MultipleDataSources" and "Type" registry keys:

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Open the Registry Editor by clicking "Start > Run" (on Windows 7 and Windows Vista, click the "Start" button and place the cursor into the "Search" field).
  3. Type in "regedit" without the quotes press Enter.
  4. Navigate to the following registry key:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\eCopy\PaperWorks\Connectors\eCopyPW.ScanTwain.1

  5. Delete the following REG_DWORD values by right-clicking on the name and choosing "Delete":

    • Multiple DataSources
    • Type
